Abstract

Electronic waste, also known as e-waste is a problem that is of growing concern to both developed and developing nations. E-waste contains multiple components and substances with dangerous toxins that may have adverse effects on human health and the environment, if not handled properly. In Kenya, e-waste management assumes great significance due to the dumping of e-waste received from developed countries. It is coupled with Kenya’s lack of appropriate infrastructure, procedures and policies for its disposal and recycling. The goal of the research was to provide an overview of Kenya’s e-waste scenario, the magnitude of the problem, environmental and health hazards, the current disposal and recycling operations as well as recommendations for action.
