Abstract

The black cotton soils undergo excessive volume changes, making their use in the construction of civil engineering projects very difficult. The properties of the black cotton soils can be altered in many ways viz. mechanical, thermal, chemical and other means. Modification of black cotton soils by chemical admixtures is a common stabilization method for such soils. In the present investigation Cement Kiln Dust (CKD), has been used as a chemical admixer to improve the properties of the black cotton soil with partial replacement by CKD (5%,10%,15%,20% &25%) and also for different curing periods (1,3,7,14 &28 days) and intensive laboratory experiments conducted. This investigation highlights significant improvement in the properties at different percentage of CKD and with the curing period.
